VENDAPIN L.L.C.
RAINBOW ZOLTRIX MODEM FOR USE WITH
THE CECB4 9 September,
2003
GENERAL The
modem must have been purchased from VENDAPIN L.L.C. Next take the CD and the Zoltrix manual and put them in a
safe place. These items will
not be used in the installation because they are only to be used in a
normal install for applications under windows.
It is best to do a boot of Windows before running VendaCom to free
up enough memory for it to run and to make sure the communications port is
properly closed and not still open with some other application (such as a
PDA or mouse). To really make
sure all is correct, reboot Windows as well. The
modems have been designed to work properly at either the CECB4 or (PC)
host connection.
DIRECT
CONNECT TEST The
CECB4 must be adequately tested under the Direct Connect mode with
VendaCom before attempting connecting with a modem.
A different cable is used for Direct Connect than for the Modem
connection. The DB9 connector
hoods are marked either 'MODEM' for modem and 'VC' for direct connect.
Note that the telephone wire has either 4 or 2 wires for use with
the Modem telephone connection. Under
the Communications window, set the correct license number (usually 123456)
in your Vendapin CECB4 processor. Set
the Password (usually 0) and the NEW and OLD Access Codes (usually
AAAAAAAA). At the same time
set the Modem Init. String to null [
]. It may be of
the form 'AT
' before clearing it. Using
the SETUP pull down window, make sure the Direct Connect Comm Port has the
correct port assigned. Note
that the direct connect and modem ports can be the same since they are not
used at the same time. Now
the CECB4 can be tested with VendaCom using a direct connect cable.
Transfer data in both directions using Direct Connect and the Board
(transfers to the CECB4) and Monitor Icons.
Only after the Direct Connect testing is complete can the modem
test be performed.
MODEM
TEST Using
the SETUP pull down window, make sure the 'Host Modem Init.' string is set
the 'AT&Y0'. Check (mark)
the box for 'Overwrite
Dispenser Info.' Set the
telephone prefix to any codes needed, e.g. '9*1727' where '9' is for an
outside line, '1' for long distance and area code of '727'. In
the Communications window set the Vend Device Phone number to a seven
digit number. Note that this
is an extension of the prefix just entered in SETUP. VendaCom
is now ready for the modem testing. Use
the special modem connect cable and make sure the cables are securely
tightened. Make sure that the
telephone cable plugged from the wall telephone jack to the 'Live jack' at
the modem is four conductor cable. The
cable plugged into the CECB4 J1 jack is six data communications flat
conductor cable. Please
make sure the cable hood marked 'MODEM' is used at the modem DB9
connection. The
DB-9/RJ-12 connector is not the same as the DB-9/RJ-12 that is used for
serial communications. You
will note the telephone DB-9/RJ-12 connector is a male connector whereas
the serial communications DB-9/RJ-12 used for the VendaCom direct connect
is a female connector. Press
the Icon Button Telephone at the top to do the modem connect and
transfers. If all goes well,
down in the bottom left a series of messages will appear, such as: 'Dialing
8456992' 'Waiting
for Connect' 'Setting
Send Mode'
OR 'Setting Receive
Mode' 'Blocks'
(counts rapidly 1 to 22)
CAUTIONS If
a message of the form "
out of Memory" should appear in
Vendacom when opening a dispenser, exit Vendacom and reboot Windows.
Do not ever use the window
'Dispenser Modem' under the 'Setup' pull down window. Note that if the modem is connected to the CECB4 and the modem becomes powered off, it will cause a message 'Please Wait ' to appear on the LCD and the CECB4 is hung waiting for data from the modem. When the modem is again powered on, the message and hung condition will disappear. The host can not dial in, of course, if the CECB4 modem is inoperable or powered off. Also note that 'Please Wait ' is the LCD message normally seen while VendaCom is connected and transferring data. Go to Appendix A for images of the screens and more detailed instructions on the set up. [ END ] Vendacom 4.11 and earlier versions of VendaCom are not compatible with VendaCom 5.XX. Please refer to www.vendapin.com/vendacom.html for additional instructions on the VendaCom "Free" polling software. [ END OF DOCUMENT ] |
