Serial Interface (MEI - Mars™ Compatible) To AstroSystems Banknote Bill Acceptors

For all units pin-outs are the same on both 26 and 20 way harnesses. This is a serial, non-isolated logic level interface (TTL/CMOS) with handshaking. This mode permits communication of all bill types as well as messages regarding the status of the bill inserted into the note acceptor. This interface operates at 600 BAUD, 1 start bit, 8 data bits and a stop bit.

Serial Interface Signals

There are three (3) other control lines that are not necessary for serial communication, but may be used in addition to them. They are:

Make sure the DIP switches are also set up for the desired operation.

SERIAL INTERFACE OPERATION

When the acceptor has a message to send, it pulls the INTERRUPT line low. The host machine will then pull the SEND line low when it can receive the serial data from the acceptor. The acceptor then outputs a CREDIT message if the bill denomination is recognized. A VEND message will follow the CREDIT message if the DISABLE/ENABLE line remains low. If the DISABLE/ENABLE pulses high within 5ms after the CREDIT message, a RETURN note message will be sent (See Page 4 Diagram). The host machine can instruct the acceptor to resend a message by making the SEND line HIGH and pulse it low within 2 to 4 ms. This resend message can be resent as many times as the host requires
